MNRI® strategies to minimize the effects of wearing masks during the period of COVID-19.
Wearing a mask is now common practice and is even mandated in many areas as we learn to live with the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization states that prolonged use of medical masks, while uncomfortable, does not lead to oxygen deficiency or carbon dioxide intoxication. However, some researchers suggest that wearing a mask can alter breathing patterns and thermoregulation, causing some individuals to experience unpleasant side effects including anxiety, headaches, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Further, it has been suggested that altered breathing patterns may persist even after the mask is removed. This portion of the lecture explores potential discomfort related to mask use and recommended MNRI® Reflex exercises to minimize the potential unpleasant effects of wearing a mask. Presented by: Dr. Amy Watson-Grace, MOT, OTD, OTR/L, BCP and  MNRI® Core in Training

The Breathing presentation will conclude with MNRI® Breathing Reflex Transition Exercises for Acute & Post-Trauma. Presented by: Isabelle Renard-Fontaine, PT, MNRI® Core Specialist, MNRI® Instructor
