Applications in Neurodevelopment: Child Reflexes: Motor Development and Milestones (11-12 months)
The MINDS Group lecture series on Child Motor Milestones continues with this discussion on the adventures of 11- and 12-month-olds. These babies use a variety of methods to move around in their environment and overcome obstacles. Fine motor skills are becoming more refined for manipulating toys and finger feeding independently. This lecture will present the motor milestones, discuss their biomechanics, and explain which reflexes and archetypal movements are foundational for their development. Without this proper foundation, motor skills will remain immature, be delayed, or be compensatory in nature, which will impede future skills in all areas of development.
